Lithium batteries are lighter than lead-acid batteries. A lighter weight means that the golf cart can reach a higher speed and function more efficiently. And more weight can be added to the golf cart before reaching capacity.

Maintenance

Lead-acid batteries need to be maintained regularly. For example, you should water the lead-acid batteries with distilled water. On the other hand, lithium batteries don’t need maintenance. Using lithium batteries can save extra maintenance costs.

Efficiency

First, in terms of charging efficiency, lithium batteries are far ahead because they can accept higher charging currents. It takes 8-10 hours to fully charge lead-acid batteries whereas it takes about 2-4 hours for lithium batteries to reach full charge.

Golf carts need consistent power and speed over any course terrain. Lithium batteries can handle this. They can maintain the same voltage output regardless of battery’s charge. In contrast, the voltage of lead-acid batteries will drop after using 70%-75% of the rated battery capacity, which will affect the efficiency of the golf carts.

In addition, partially charged lead-acid batteries can suffer from sulfation damage, which can result in a significantly shorter life. Lithium batteries, on the other hand, will not be negatively affected by the partial charge.
